Mel Katz

San Diego Regional Policy & Innovation Center (PIC) Board Secretary Mel Katz has been one of San Diego’s most respected business and civic leaders since 1977 when he purchased the local Manpower franchise with Phil Blair. Today, Manpower Staffing Services of San Diego is the largest of the Manpower franchises in the U.S.

Mel’s devotion to both advancing economic equity for working people and civic improvement has earned him an impeccable reputation in the San Diego community. He is an outspoken advocate of pre-K-12 and post-secondary education.

Katz also serves as a board member of the San Diego County Water Authority, the San Diego Rotary Foundation, e3 Civic High, Newsource and is board member emeritus of the UC San Diego Foundation. He previously served as board chair of the San Diego Public Library Foundation, San Diego Workforce Partnership, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, the San Diego Convention Center, American Cancer Society and the San Diego Library Commission.

Katz and his wife were awarded “Mr. and Mrs. San Diego 2017” by Rotary 33 of San Diego.
